Inclusive Mobility Interventions for Young Adolescents and Livable Urban Spaces

  • Projektlaufzeit: 02.2026 – 01.2029

  • Project Lead: Martin Loidl (Z_GIS)

  • Role Z_GIS: Partner

  • Staff: Amna Azeem

Initial Situation

Young adolescents aged between 11 and 15 are currently significantly underrepresented in mobility and urban planning, despite this life stage being crucial for shaping future travel habits. There is a lack of robust data on their mobility patterns as well as interventions tailored to this target group. Existing approaches neither take into account the perspectives of this age group nor their diversity and are rarely scalable or applicable across different European contexts.

Project Goals

  • Co-creation of future visions for active and multimodal mobility among young adolescents.

  • Development of a multinational empirical evidence base on mobility patterns and their influencing factors.

  • Collaborative design of theory-driven interventions and their testing in Living Labs (Paris, Guildford, Salzburg).

Expected Results

  • Co-created visions and interventions for youth-friendly mobility within the framework of the 15-minute city concept.

  • Transferable guidelines and open-access tools for implementing inclusive mobility strategies.

Contribution Z_GIS

  • Development of a multinational evidence base on mobility patterns of young adolescents.

  • Modelling the interaction of young adolescents with their spatial and social environment.
