Klimaaktiv describes itself as Austria’s leading climate protection initiative. It is responsible for implementing measures to achieve the national climate goals and promotes, networks and advises companies and organisations on their way to improving their climate performance. Numerous scientists collaborate with Klimaaktiv and help to transfer their knowledge into practice.

On Monday, 10 June 2024, Klimaaktiv hosted its annual conference at the Orangery Schönbrunn in Vienna and more than 300 people from all federal states accepted the invitation. On this occasion, the 20th anniversary of the climate protection initiative was celebrated. Under the virtual auspices of President Van der Bellen, Prof Hans Joachim Schellnhuber delivered an inspirational keynote speech. The day was rounded off with a high-level panel discussion, including the Federal Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler, Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, Barbara Blaha (Momentum Institute), Hanspeter Hutter (Medical University Vienna), Georg Pölzl (Post AG) and Rihab Toumi (Federal Youth Council) and a cosy “Klima-Heurigen”.

The head of the Mobility Lab, Martin Loidl, was invited to give a talk on digital, situation-aware nudging in the well-attended session The power of habit: changing (mobility) routines. Martin contributed to an exciting session with lots of questions from the audience together with Marc Stoffel from Switzerland (42hacks), Katharina Gangl (IHS Vienna) and Paul Pfaffenbichler (BOKU Vienna).
Further details on digital, situation-aware nudging can be found in the high-quality published article by Loidl et al. (2023). Most of the results from the European DyMoN research project are available as open data on Zenodo.
