Together with Eva Nuhn (Augsburg University), Emily Wilke (HeiGIT, Heidelberg) and Vasileios Milias (NTUA, Athens), the PLUS Mobility Lab organized a full-day workshop on walkability as part of the AGILE conference 2025 in Dresden. Following the title “Walking the X-min city: Methods and implementations to assess walkability and pedestrian accessibility” the team provided insights into existing walkability concepts and implementations, followed by detailed discussions with the participants.

The Mobility Lab was represented by Petra Stutz and Christian Werner, who contributed an input on the scope of existing walkability methods as well as an introduction to the walkability index of NetAScore. The recently upgraded demo applications for NetAScore (for Austria and for Sachsen) were of great value to illustrate the impact of individual indicators as well as potential application scenarios.

The interactive workshop offered four stations for group discussions, covering the following aspects:

  • Limitations of current approaches and methods + ideas how to solve them

  • Application cases, connecting points to other methods and domains

  • Thinking out of the box: innovative and crazy ideas for walkability

  • Walkability factors in different environments

Already on-site we were able to draw valuable conclusions from the active contributions of workshop participants. Now we assess the results in detail and will compile and provide a summary of findings online. A warm thank you to everyone who was so motivated and contributed to making this workshop a success!

During the main conference track we saw many interesting talks on diverse topics in Urban Mobility and Urban Analytics. These led to inspiring follow-up discussions. Meeting well-known as well as getting to know new talented researchers who work on these topics was very valuable. We hope to meet again soon!
